The challenge of keeping the charm of a 90 year old home while bringing renewed life and energy to its historic character, was what Avec was given the opportunity to work towards for this beautiful home in the woods.

Every inch of the existing house was examined, refreshed, and filled with new technology capabilities inside the walls. A new kitchen and garage were added to the overall square footage, while nearly every square foot of space was re-programmed to fit into the new grander vision of every space. Maximized daylighting was another objective for the owners. While older homes are often filled with smaller windows and darker interior spaces, Avec’s challenge was to keep the original aesthetic of the house while adding new, larger window openings, while organizing spaces inside in a way that felt consistent with the feel of a home of this era.
